About
The who, what, why, and where
fortuitous is written by Matthew Haughey (all about me on wikipedia) and was created in spring of 2007, after an epiphany at SXSW. It is powered by Movable Type and Feedburner. Ryan Gantz helped out a ton, turning my original photoshop template (the bottom-frame layout was inspired by the NorthTemple site) into HTML that works in most every browser. If you'd like to contact me directly, use this old contact form.
The name of the site is "fortuitous" and while I was just looking for an interesting word that ended in us so I could buy the .us domain for it, I think the definition has a loose connection to my story. I've had a good bit of luck, been in the right place at the right time at many points in my career, and I've taken advantage of those lucky moments and worked hard to capitalize on them.
I'm a hobbyist turned designer turned developer who eventually got to quit my day job and support myself with my projects. Along the way, my business life has gotten increasingly complicated and I've had to spend hours researching accounting, the law, and usage patterns on my sites. I intend to post a new essay about some aspect of my experiences every week. I posted more about the thrust behind the site on my first entry here.
